DNP Green Technology’s bio-based succinic acid production process is cost competitive with that of petro-based processes and has the further advantage of being “green.” DNP’s process consumes green house gases (CO2), providing the long term potential to generate carbon credits. As the cost of petro-feedstocks rise due to high demand and tight supply, the advantage for bio-based chemicals will increase. DNP has leading patent-protected technologies covering its production process and applications.

The portfolio is further strengthened by ongoing process improvements and next generation technologies under development.

The company currently has 25 families of inventions covering:

  • The production and use of succinate salts
  • Production, separation and purification of succinic acid
  • Production and use of succinic acid derivatives such as esters, emulsifiers, surfactants and chelating agents.

Along with its JV partner, ARD, a French consortium of bio-based and foodstuffs materials companies, DNP Green Technology is building a demonstration plant, scheduled for start-up in 2009. The business model of the JV, known as Bioamber, is built on a licensing strategy. This strategy recognizes that "speed to market" is essential because the JV is participating in a rapidly evolving area of technology. Pursuing this strategy brings the benefit of accelerating market penetration and minimizing capital expenditures.
